Ben Lawlor is currently studying toward a masters degree in French and Francophone Culture and Society at The Pennsylvania State University. He plans to pursue a subsequent PhD with a dual specialization in French and Francophone Studies and African Studies. Ben's research is focused on centering subaltern voices in academia and the validation of non-western knowledge related to the communication of political and social messages through music. Ben is particularly interested in the ways in which music can become a place for the reconceptualization of worldviews and how the process of cultural creolization is reflected in and driven by music. He is currently engaged in research on the Tunisian postcolonial experience.
